Review of the first year Regular sporting activity – learning to play tennis Divided into two groups of 15, children take part in a tennis session every Saturday, from 9 am to 11 am, at the Luang Prabang Tennis Club, with tailored coaching. Tennis sessions include: warm-ups, technical basics, individual and group exercises, games and mini-matches, teamwork and sportsmanship. Participation and attendance The first year saw a high level of participation, with no dropouts or repeated absences. The children’s attendance and the support shown by their families confirm their commitment to the project. Nutrition and hydration At each session, the children are given a healthy snack and water, along with information to raise awareness about nutrition and hydration. Medical follow up Health checks carried out on the beneficiaries, including blood tests, revealed nutritional deficiencies in at least 50 per cent of them. These findings confirm the need for a comprehensive support programme combing sport, medical monitoring, food parcels and awareness-raising on hygiene and nutrition. Social and educational workshops Eight workshops were organised around four themes: nutrition, hygiene and health; cooperation, team spirit and inclusion; self-confidence, self-expression and personal development; the values of sport, social openness and positive role models. Community events Four events, each attracting around 100 participants, extended the project beyond its 30 direct beneficiaries. They raised awareness within the communities and strengthened connections between young people, families and partners.
