Update from Spain 2021

Update from Spain 2021

Over the past year, our program has been affected by the COVID pandemic, which caused a slight reduction in activities. The practice sessions have taken place as initially planned, but the level of participation in competitions and clinics was much lower than expected.

Our program followed the protocols of the health authorities at all times and during the months of January to March 2021 we were able to continue with outdoor practice.  The program was affected by the caution of participating families and restrictions in residences, which resulted in a decrease of attendance to the sessions.  The coaches did a close follow up on the participants, organizing online sessions for those who were not able to attend the face-to-face practice.   Coinciding with the vaccination program, the month of April saw an increase in the number of participants.  The practice sessions continued until the end of July.

Sadly, some of the usual activities that our athletes participate in year after year, such as the Special Tennis Cataluña Tournament, and the clinic at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, were not able to take place.

The practice sessions started again in September after the summer holidays and continued until the month of December. Again, the coaches strictly adhered to the security measures of the health authorities at all times.

The highlight of the year was on October 21 when some of our athletes were able to participate in the Potter Cup clinic at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.  This was the first such activity of the season.

For 2022, the following activities have already been scheduled:

  • May 6, 2022: Clinic at ITF WTA LA BISBAL
  • May 22, 2022: Campionat Catalunya Federació ACELL in Mataró.
  • We are working hand and hand with the organizers of the Special Tennis Tournament at the Cercle Sabadelles, the CD Terrassa Hoquei and the City of Tarragona Tennis Tournament.  This would allow continuous competition for our athletes and in this way they can measure their improvement and progress
