Thando Xolo Is Our Star Player We entered seven of the players into the Gauteng East Closed tournament which also acts as the first leg of trials for the 2023 inter provincial teams. We applaud the results of Thando Xolo who finished as runner up in both the under 14 singles and doubles with her partner, Angel Nkosi. Thando has always shown promise of better things to come, and this is a just reward for her total dedication to the training and coaching not only throughout this year, but over the time she has been involved with the programme. This is by far her best tournament result, eclipsing her 4th place finish in the same tournament last year, and it should ensure her inclusion into the inter provincial team for next year. We also congratulate Siya Silinga who played in an age group higher than she normally would have done. Her development has been quite remarkable for one so slight of build, but her enthusiasm and commitment know no bounds. Siya played in the under 11 and finished fourth which is an incredible achievement for someone playing out of her comfort zone, but the results justified our faith in her that she could cope in the higher age group. She has an abundant of promise and with the right coaching and mentorship, Siya can write a new chapter in the Vosloorus tennis programme. The other players, some playing in a higher age group for the first time, had some mixed success but I will be honest and say that I was hoping for better results from some of them. The experience that they had will show them just how far they must progress to be competitive at tournament level. All in all, the success of both Thando and Siya outweighed the other results and once again the players from Vosloorus left their mark on the event.
